
Weekend Bee School – May
Our weekend course is two days of theory and practical knowledge on the ins-and-outs of becoming a beekeeper. We will equip you with the skills to start your own apiary, maintain your equipment and understand more about the world of bees and pollination. This course is suitable if you are a total beginner or know a few of the buzz words- we will cover all bases.
Day one will cover:
-Information on bees and pollination, their history in Scotland, life cycles and all things honey-bee.
-Hive and tool construction, giving a break down of all the basic information of getting started.
-What to look for on each hive inspection and what a year of beekeeping will consist of.
-A practical beekeeping session.
Day two will cover:
-Swarming and behaviours the queen, and how to mark her.
-Disease control and good housekeeping.
-Honey extraction and other bee-products.
– Joining your local association.
-A practical beekeeping session.
The course runs 10am-5pm on day one and 10am-4pm on day two. Lunch and teas and coffees are included, so please let us know any dietary requirements beforehand.
